Gary Lee 'Strong Man' Tom - Founder of ONAC

 

 

 

Gary Tom holds a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's degree in education from Northern Arizona University.An accomplished native flutist, he shares Paiute traditions through traditional regalia, stories and flute music.Tom has lectured extensively and has presented historical and musical programs throughout the country.Hehas written many articles and has co-authored the book Beneath These Red Cliffs, a history of the Paiute.

 

The representative of the Paiute Tribe of Utah for the 2002 Winter Olympics, Tom was one of five Native American flute players to perform at the opening ceremonies.He held the distinction of bringing the Olympic torch from Athens, Greece to Atlanta, Ga., where the torch run began.
